I am a master's student who had to give up the possibility of a doctorate because I could not afford it. Nearly 40% of my salary goes to rent, even if I share a tiny apartment in Montreal. I don't want to take vacations because I am ashamed to stay home and do nothing while my friends go abroad and live their lives.
If graduate funding was CAD $35,000/yr for all students, how would that change your life? I could afford not to work a second job and maybe even go on vacation. I could also save money and consider having hobbies, a bigger apartment or having a car.
