My graduate student scholarships (17,500 at the master's level and 24,000 at the doctoral level) have always been sufficient to support me, but this is largely because I am in a stable relationship that allows me to cut many expenses in half. In my experience and that of my colleagues, NSERC and FRQNT scholarships are highly competitive and generally out of our reach.
